Sunday, May 17 announcements
As a part of their ministry of care, the Deacons provide a cake one Sunday a month to acknowledge all the congregation’s celebrations. This month’s cake is in honor of all who have May birthdays, anniversaries, will graduate or are observing some other special event. Congratulations to you!
Phil is planning to focus some of his summer sermons on topics suggested by the congregation. If you have an idea for a sermon, you can share it with him via email, email@example.com
We are collecting food items to be distributed to students at Riverbend Elementary. This provides weekend food for those who receive free school breakfast and lunch during the week. We could use: single serving cup mac & cheese, Chef Boyardee, pop-top soup, and fresh fruit. If you can donate money, please label it “Weekend food program.” We pack up over 60 food bags on Thursdays at 10 AM if anyone would like to help. Thank you.
A delegation of 4 young people (Summer Putman, Liz Kell, Magen Boegli, and Lacey Davis) are going with Melissa to the Gather at the River conference in San Antonio, August 6-9 to learn about LGBTQIA outreach and join the new reconciling youth movement. We need your help with the costs: we still need about $2,500.00. Here are some ways you can help: (1) Donate Alaska Air miles, (2) Donate financially (Make the check to your church, memo: Gather at the River-Youth), and (3) Pray for us before, during, and after the event. Please contact Melissa if you are able to donate or pray at Pastor.Engel.AK@gmail.com.
CPM is in need of NLUC talent for the following items:
Manse – we have ordered new windows to replace the old and sometimes single pane windows. We can either install these with NLUC volunteers or pay the Contractor to install them. If you have an interest and/or expertise and are willing to install these please contact either Nico Bus, or John Norman. The expected delivery is in six weeks – towards the end of June. A great opportunity to save the Church some money!
Sanctuary – several members have expressed interest in replacing the lighting in the Sanctuary and upgrade the projection system. If you are interested in either participating or leading this project please contact Nico Bus.
Choir/stage area – in order to obtain better utilization of the front of the Sanctuary several members have asked this area to be redesigned. Some years ago some work was done and we would like to see what the membership would like to see done here. If you are interested in participating in a work group, or if you want to lead this redesign please contact Nico Bus at 789-3718 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

May’s newsletter deadline is Tuesday, May 26.
Work has started on a feminine hygiene project for girls in Guatemala. This is a project to make fabric items using a sewing machine. If you are interested in helping with this project, have a sewing machine and are willing to sew a couple projects, see Marion Gotschall for materials and directions after church.
The annual neighborhood block party will be June 7 after our 11:00 a.m. worship. This party is for our Northern Light family and the whole neighborhood, so please help spread the word and plan to join the fun — rain or shine! We’ll close off and cover 11th Street in front of the church, and have a canopy in the side yard at the parsonage, to keep us dry. Hot dogs, burgers, condiments, and drinks will be provided. You are invited to bring a side dish, chips, dessert, or other item to share.
