Sunday, January 18 announcements
Dr. Diana Butler Bass, one of the leading commentators on religion and spirituality, will be in Anchorage, Jan. 30 & 31 for a two day learning event sponsored by the Alaska United Methodist Conference. The Conference is waiving the registration fee for all participants in United Methodist churches including those of us from Northern Light. It would be great to have a good group from our church make it to this event. Dr. Bass’ study series, “Embracing Spiritual Awakening” will be the basis of our Lenten Study that will start in Feb.
This Tuesday, we will serve chili at the Glory Hole. There is a list of ingredients needed on the bulletin board in the fellowship hall if you can donate any groceries. There is also a list for signing up to cook and/or serve.
February’s newsletter deadline is Tuesday, January 27.
Weekend Food Program begins. We are collecting food items to be distributed to students at Riverbend elementary starting Jan. 30. This will provide food on the weekend for those who receive free school lunch and breakfast during the week. We will provide 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 snacks and are seeking food items that require little or no preparation (canned items should have a pop top), are single serving, and nonperishable. Donation examples: instant oatmeal packets, granola bars, apples, oranges, fruit or pudding cups, packets of cheese or peanut butter crackers, cans of soup, single serving mac and cheese, spaghetti, ramen noodles, etc. Also seeking large boxes of cereal to be divided into single servings in baggies.
The 1st meeting of the Community of Christian Women is this Saturday, January 24 at noon. All women of Northern Light United Church are invited to attend. We will make decisions about where to allocate the 2014 bazaar proceeds and take suggestions for program topics for the year. Please join us for a light lunch and fellowship. Hope to see you all there.
